Benson Grass Fire

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Benson, Utah-April 9- The Smithfield Fire Department with automatic aid form the Cache County Fire District responded to a grass fire at 4744 North 4700 West Benson. The call came in approximately 12:30 PM.

The first arriving units reported a grass fire that was out of control. The fire was started by an individual who obtained a burn permit but lost control due to heavy dry vegetation. The fire burned approximately 5 acres.

The Cache County Fire District cautions everyone the vegetation is extremely dry this year. Those who obtain burn permits must make sure they follow the rules. You must be 18 or older and be with the fire at all times. You must have a water source at all times. The fire must be out before dark. No burning of trash or construction material. Fires that become a nuisance will be put out. Please call 911 if you lose control of the fire.
