FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Logan, Utah – September 19, 2019 at approximately 3:35 pm crews were dispatched to a child that had been discovered by family members as tangled in the window blind chord and was reported to be not breathing – While crews were in route it was reported by dispatch that the child was freed from the cords and that CPR was in progress.  As crews arrived it was reported by dispatch that the child was crying. Crews were on scene in less than two minutes.  Once on scene the child was breathing on its own.  Aggressive patient care was initiated on scene and the child was transported to a hospital emergency department in less than 12 minutes.  Patient was later transferred to a Salt Lake City area hospital.  Further information on the condition of the patient is unknown.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission calls corded window coverings one of the top five hidden hazards in American homes, with infants and children accidentally becoming entangled in window blind cords.

Window blind safety suggestions include:
1.      Keep cords and strings, including those attached to window blinds, out of your child's reach. Move all cribs, beds, furniture and toys away from windows and window cords.
2.      If you live in a home where you are not allowed to replace your window coverings, follow basic window cord safety guidelines.
