Structure Fire Logan LDS Instititue

Logan, Utah – January 25, 2012 – At 9:45 this morning the Logan Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm at the Logan LDS Institute near the USU Campus.

Upon arrival the engine company found smoke in the building and upgraded the incident to a structure fire bring automatic aid from other agencies.    

Fire crews were directed to the kitchen area of the building and found bystanders had attempted to put the fire out using fire extinguishers.  Firefighters extinguished the remaining flames. The fire was confined to the room of origin.  Firefighters used fans to clear the smoke that had filled the building.  Due to the size of the building smoke removal took a significant amount of time.  All occupants of the building were evacuated and classes for the remainder of the day were canceled.  The fire heavily damaged the ceiling, cabinets and wall above a stove top cooking appliance.

 Fire investigation found that a cardboard box had been placed on the stove top cooking appliance which had inadvertently been turned on.  The fire was determined to be accidental and no injuries to occupants or firefighters were reported.

 Detached Garage Fire 600 West 6750 South Hyrum

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hyrum, Utah-January 21-The Hyrum fire department with automatic aid from Wellsville, Paradise and the Cache County Fire District responded to a garage fire at 600 West 6750 South Hyrum. The call came in approx. 7:36 AM
The first arriving units reported the garage fully involved. The arriving units were able to obtain a water source and protect the home next to the garage. Fire units quickly contained the fire to the garage.
The garage contained two tractors and some gardening equipment and a large freezer. The damage was estimated at $40,000. The fire has been determined an accident and caused by an electrical outlet.

Residential Structure Fire 1078 North 200 East

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Logan, Utah-January 13 – Logan City Fire Department with automatic aid from North Logan, Smithfield and the Cache County Fire District responded to a residential structure fire at 1078 North 200 East, Logan. The call came in approx. 13:54 PM.

The first arriving units found the home involved in fire, apparently coming from the basement.  Fire units obtained a water source and made entry to the basement. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, however the home had extensive fire damage in the basement and heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.  Upon the arrival of the fire department the location of the occupants was not known.  It was reported that some pets had perished in the fire.  No other structures were threatened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

Logan Barn Fire 1950 South US 89/91

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Logan, Utah-January 6 – Logan City Fire Department with automatic aid from North Logan, and the Cache County Fire District responded to a barn fire at 1950 South US 89/91 Logan. The call came in approx. 2:29 PM.

The first arriving units reported a barn fully involved. Units on scene obtained a water source and quickly contained the fire to the barn. No other structures were threatened.

The barn contained 60 tons of hay. The damage is estimated at 58,400. The cause of the fire was sparked by individuals welding.

Structure Fire

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE


Logan, Utah – January 1, 2012 – The Logan Fire Department with Automatic Aid departments responded to a report of a structure fire located at 570 West Center in Logan City.  The call came in at approx. 2:13 pm.   

Upon arrival the fire department found heavy fire and smoke in an attached garage of the home.  The fire had begun to spread into the living area of the home.  Firefighters had the fire under control in approx. 15 minutes.  The home had smoke damage throughout.  One of the three occupants was transported to the hospital as precaution due to smoke inhalation.  Several pets in the home were found to be safe.

The cause of the fire has been determined as accidental and caused by electrical overheating.
