Logan Structure Fire

Structure Fire

Logan, Utah – May 22, 2014 – The Logan Fire Department with automatic aid response from North Logan, Smithfield and Cache County responded to a report of a structure fire at 1176 North 250 East.  The fire was reported by an individual that could smell smoke in the area east of the Stadium 6 movie theaters.  The caller then found the home that was on fire. 

Upon arrival the fire department found a single family home with fire coming from two basement windows on the back side of the building.  The fire department began extinguishing the fire from the outside until it was safe to enter and extinguish the remaining fire.  The home was unoccupied and was being remodeled at the time of the fire. 

The home sustained extensive heat and smoke damage throughout all rooms.  Damage estimate is undetermined at this time.  Fire crews will continue to be on scene to control any hot spots during the night and will conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire later this morning.  No injuries reported.

Logan Barn Fire

Logan, Utah May,1 2014 - The Logan fire department with automatic aid from Wellsville, Hyrum, Paradise, North Logan, Mendon, Smithfield and the Cache County Fire District responded to a barn fire located at 1360 West 940 South Logan. The fire was reported at 7:36 PM by a neighbor.

Upon arrival the fire department found a two story barn with heavy fire coming from the loft. Fire units where able to put water on the fire quickly. Fire personal had to lay approximately 2000 feet of 5 inch hose from the fire hydrant located on 1000 West. Fire personal where able to extinguish the fire without any injury to civilians or fire personnel, however a number of baby chickens did perish in the fire.

The barn did sustain significant damage. The damage is estimated at $80,000 no other structures where damaged. The cause of the fire was a heat lamp that was being used to warm baby chickens.
